Who I Am

I am who I am
And who I am is me.
I started gymnastics
At the age of three.

In second grade
I chose softball.
I’m elated to be playing
On the team this fall.

It’s been more than ten years
Since I started to play.
I’m shocked I still love it
The same way today.

Adopted by a woman
Who is white.
I have faced diversity, adversity,
And learned how to fight.

I’ve fought for my education
Not for my life.
And in doing so
I’ve learned many skills with a knife.

I’m a certified chef
Who carves edible arrays.
I’m here, at Becker,
To work for the CIA.

Born in Boston,
Raised in Riverview.
Becker was scary,
Inviting and new.

In high school I was a shark
In a town named Riverview.
That’s where I learned Alfredo
Was made from a rue.

My goal is success
Because I fear I will fail.
It’s my actions and words
That will shape my fairytale.

I am who I am
And who I am is me.
I hope you appreciate that
Because that’s all I can be.
